Graphic Design
The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale
Employer: Off-Air Design, VH1
Job Title: Director
Spurred on by a lifelong dream to live in New York City, Julie is pursuing her creative passion and working as a Director of Off-Air Design at VH1. Mixing her love of the city with her design talents has proven to be hugely successful for Julie, who was awarded the prestigious National Silver Broadcast Design Association (BDA) Award for packaging design in 2003.
Like many budding designers, Julie did not realize that there were creative professions that would allow her to show off her big imagination. Interested in photography, printmaking, sculpture, and painting, she knew from a young age that she was meant for a career that’s off the beaten path. The education she received at The Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale gave her the skills and confidence she needed to pursue a creative career—and to fulfill her desire to live in one of the world’s most vibrant cities.
Soon after graduation, Julie landed her first job as a designer at MTV Latin America. The industry connections and experience she gained there allowed her to move into her current position at VH1. She recommends that other creative individuals stay true to their passion and take advantage of opportunities to grow as artists. It’s the same advice she followed to help her become the successful professional she is today.
